Essentially if you've been pushed back to the goal area and can't kill wave 19 (pigs) fast enough to get to the middle before the next wave starts moving past the middle you should use this tactic. Simply make sure you have all the creeps attention or you will leak a little then run along the sides during bonus. Don't go on the path the birds fly you will be slowed down. This works with pretty much every character expect Fen Champ. Though he could do it, the technique would just be harder since he would have to constantly hit something to make himself visible to the creeps. You also have to make sure your allies don't divert the creeps attention to themselves. Works during the second bonus wave and even on the murlocs with a caster, you just have to run by them or attack something near them. This is also a great tactic for just stalling for time on later waves when your entire team is dead or if your team is out of creep range. If you get two people to do this you can do it for both lanes and run the creeps to the teleport pads in the middle left and right before using the teleport pad to go back to the goal area.

Oh Man! I love those piggies! Great idea! You won't have any problem clearing up those during bonus wave with only one hero. However you might have less time to prepare for the next wave(ex. shopping).

Any idea on how to counter disruption/beer/slow/etc? I know falling back is an option but it would be better to still have the opportunity to regain the upper bottleneck.

Well there is always Anti-Magic Pots if you feel that the other team might offense you. You need to start the potion early so it wears off in time so you can tank the next wave which has magic attack though.
That or you could be Barbarian and max Berserk, Paladin with Courage, Weapon Smith who uses max Concentrate, Blood Dancer or Ahlen/Holy Warrior using their ultimate though Holy Warrior's ultimate would not wear off in time to tank the magic wave. Though I don't use Berserk or max Concentrate these are still options.
If you are worried about the tank not making in time just have a mage kite the pigs with an anti-magic potion while the tank uses the portal to get back to the middle.
It's also a good idea to put an Uthmor in the middle if you feel you can't make it back in time or be ready to use it if the other team uses an Uthmor in the middle.
Otherwise in pub games you don't need to worry about them offensing you. This is the tactic I used in my Xvs1 games and it worked like magic. It's even more vital for the second bonus wave where it's all about stalling and a few mins makes a big difference in what you summon.

It's also possible to not even have to run with the creeps but instead just lead them to one of the ledges near the shops or the sides of the goal area and blink over. However not all of the creeps will follow you about half will get confused and head into the goal. All you need to do however is attack one of the creeps up on the ledge after you've blinked down.
So this strategy isn't the easiest to do with some melee heroes. Rally works for example, just anything to get their attention. If you don't have something to get their attention well you gotta run.
