This hero combo should fight in the middle of the map, between the two item shops. Early game is self-explanatory, just do not die, use small potions when necessary and try to avoid spending money on cheap weapons (get plate mail and winged boots instead). Once your heroes reach level six, you’re in business. Between the Cabalist casting ethereal shield, the Empath’s armor aura and plate mail for the Troll and Cabalist you should be well protected. In general, the Cabalist will horde creeps around him and use Mantle of Flames to weaken them while he and the Troll pick them off. The Empath should focus transference on the Cabalist, but can use it on the Troll in a pinch.
The Cabalist will be the primary tank, and the centerpiece of this hero combo. Using mantle of flames constantly to weaken and kill creeps that surround you will be your bread and butter. With a good Empath nearby, you won’t have to worry about health or mana running out either, but you might want to keep some small mana pots and health pots on hand just incase. The Troll Troll should avoid being surrounded, and mostly focus on with helping the Cabalist kill, however he should also keep an eye on the Empath to make sure no creeps leak past the surrounded Cabalist and attack her.
Use bloodboil with vampiric potion often, or get transference from the Empath if the Cabalist is doing ok. The Troll and Empath should stockpile small potions just to have as a backup. No weapons should need to be purchased for the Troll or Cabalist until near the first bonus wave. I like this build because it really lets you save money. The only expensive item the Troll needs to buy is a Nimsha, which you may get from the Empath’s alchemy anyway.
Make sure you are ready for the stun waves, have the troll bring anti-magic pots ahead of time.
Use a Darkrift and shear it if you are having trouble killing.
If your healer is killed from offense or creeps, you should blink away and buy mana/hp pots. The Troll and Cabalist should be able to survive a fair amount of time without the Empath as long as they have potions (and mana pots for Cabalist).
On levels 13 and 33, the archers – you should have a few points in fireball so you can one hit the archers at range, the cannibal should use bloodboil or any stolen ultimates to dispatch them quickly as they wont come near the Cabalist and take damage from Mantle of Flames. Level 13 is pretty easy, 33 can get tricky if you don’t play it right.
Details for how to play each hero are below:
Empath: You need all your abilities, Regeneration , Transference, Armor Aura, and Alchemy. Regen and Transfer for obvious reasons, armor aura at max level should give your cabalist over 200 armor if he has ethereal shield and plate mail (and then +25 more with ironbarks). Troll should have about 150 and the Cabalist can cast shield on him as well. Use Alchemy when you have it leveled up a bit so you can get good items like a Nimsha or +36 rings, Spineripper is alright for the Troll too. Make sure both other heroes are in your armor aura and try not to leave the Cabalist – let the Troll buy items.
Cabalist: You are the man on this team, the creeps should be mostly focused on you so you’ll be depending on your Mantle of Flame and your Empath to keep your health and mana in good status. Make sure you level up your Mantle of Flame as often as possible, and your Ethereal Shield. Save your Fireball points for the bonus wave when you can retrain and get level 10, this should two-hit each bird. Then retrain again to get shield and mantle back (only costs 2K). Use Naphtha at your discretion and make sure you begin to level up Dragon’s Breath as well since it will be important late game. Get winged leather boots so you can blink out of trouble if there are any problems. Later on, the troll should be able to dispatch of creeps easily that are burning with Naphtha without using bloodboil. Since you won’t have many items to hold, you can get a couple diamond etched rings later on but mostly go for ironbarks and dragon scale. Around wave 30 your immolation will start to lose its effectiveness so make sure you are using fireball and dragon’s breath w/ Naphtha.
Troll: You will be supporting the Cabalist with kills and help to deliver items as well early to mid game. Make sure you max out Behead as soon as you can, I am kind of skeptical about Scalping cry I usually do stats instead but I don’t think it matters that much which one you do. Once you get high level Behead and a few points in bloodboil you will be a killing machine, but make sure you keep an eye on the Empath incase creeps go after her. Keep blink boots on hand just in case, vampiric pots, and small health pots. Your ultimate is good to learn depending on what heroes are on the other team, but do not focus on that until later on. If you can get a Nimsha and a Mirrorblade for the Troll, consider it game over. Just make sure you stay in the Empath’s armor aura. As the game goes on and your attack damage and speed increase, you will become the primary killer.
Pros:
1) Since the only items you will need until the first bonus wave are small health pots, plate mail, and boots, this strat helps conserve a ton of money so you can buy elite items fast. The three heroes combined should have around 300K by the first bonus wave, which means you can get both Nimsha for the Troll and Ironbarks for the Cabalist.
2) A good Empath will eliminate the need for concern over taking damage while surrounded and using mantle of flames for an extended time (since mana is also transferred) or constantly using blood boil, and of course the added armor aura helps.
3) Unlike some caster/healer combos, this grouping can kill effectively early in the game.
Cons:
1) Can be vulnerable to mass offense from the other team, especially the healer (if a Warlock is on the other team this combo becomes very difficult to survive with facing silence on the Empath and energy drain on the Cabalist). Once you have Ironbarks for the Cabalist and Troll, it becomes much easier to avoid most offense.
I have never played this combo passed wave 36-38 not because we were failing but because the other team lost so I’m not sure how it will fair against the last 5-6 waves or so. Usually by that point, the other team will be on their heels anyway.
