The mentalist should get a good mana tank and splash damage and the ability to decrease the health of the creeps by 50%, just keep on bashing the creeps and bashing and bashing until you can't handle the creeps anymore, then do a dazzle and let the summoner sumon all his summons to clean the entire mess up
You should get mana regen items for the mentalist and maybe some mana pots for the summoner, just to make sure it can summon when needed the summoner should get the combo boots so he can move fast and teleport when he gets into trouble, if the summoner dies you wil have to use your spellbringer to save the mentalist whe he gets into trobule, do the same the other way around, so if one dies you shouldn't be lost but able to save your asses with some well played summons
try getting the summer the skullcleaver and a nimsha just to help him kill especially with the spash damage its a good idea to play him like that
the only disadvantage is mana burn, but otherwise it should work like a charm

XD maybe the furblogs should tank, keeping the pressure off of the mentalist, they are after all disposable. The sayts after a certain level will be able to keep the mobs from building up. The mentalist would be better off grabbing armor, tele boots, evasion boots, a gleaming, telo maybe or save for spine, perhaps combo boots to save invetory space, and maybe a str ring to increase his health. Str or int, whichever one is more needed (if you're going for the shield build you should grab int, as long as his mana doesnt go over his health, the mana shield build is also more risky then stats). Also if you lookit Morts Darkrift list you'll be able to find out pretty quickly what is better to summon with summoner's level 6.

hard to survive at early game, since both mental and summoner are weak at that time
if mental go swords, max bears first are good. if mental go armor, max satyr first(well, need bear at spider lvl, and range wave)

Few Things. You never go a man build for mentilist to prone to mana burn. Seconldy if a smart person attacks and kills one guy they will most likely follow up with a purfiy if u do summon so its a waste. If anytyhing have the usmmoner use his lvl 6 then use summon after they been pufiyed. Final Point you only need one point in mana shild to keep the mana low to stop them from mana burning u mid fight which usally leads to a death.

a good summoner wont let u purify his pet unless he casts 3 kinds of pets at once if he does that, he is not good summoner

after a certain level shear them. If they were summoned to save you, 15-30 sb mana can be spent to protect them. Don't forget to use your innate. 15 - bears & satyrs 30 - summons
